Stories

Every Saturday, I will post a story of my creation.
The Diamond Shop
It dazzled her eyes when it caught the sun's rays.  It's smooth sides slipped easily through her paws.  Did she dare to part with it?  Making up her mind, she stepped forward.
Opal crumpled to the cold, forest, ground, shrieking in pain.  After taking a few deep breaths, she lifted her paw from the ground.  She took her needle-sharp claws and pulled at the thorn-like object that pierced her dainty paw.  After a small struggle, she finally managed to yank the item out of her paw.
Opal was about to toss it to the floor when a sparkle caught her eye.  Looking at the thing she had pulled from her paw, her mouth dropped open.  In her paw was a silvery-blue crystal, shining in the sun.  Confused, she raced back to her den and hid it in an ancient cabinet and tried to forget about it.
Some months later, an announcement was made.  Too many jammers had little or no gems.  If anyone had any ideas, they were to contact one of the alphas immediately.
Something stirred in Opal's mind, and she felt herself drawn to the ancient cabinet that she hadn't opened for months.  Swinging it open, she stared at the blue crystal and in a rush remembered that day, so long ago.
Reaching her paws into the dusty cabinet, she snatched it up.  Running out of her den, she sprinted to Liza's bamboo hut.  Panting, she paused. Did she really want to do this?  Racking her brain, she realized she did.  Stepping forward, she knocked on the wooden door.
"Come in," came the low voice of Liza.  Opening the door, Opal stepped cautiously inside.
Liza was sitting on a straight-backed wooden chair at her desk, which was covered with discoveries, maps, and everything imaginable.  Liza herself was sitting, studying one of the blueprints.
"Er, Liza," Opal began," I believe I have the answer to the issue about gems."
Immediately, Liza turned, staring at Opal with intense concentration.  "Yes?"
"Well," said Opal hesitantly. "I believe the answer with this."  She opened her clenched paws to reveal the diamond.
Liza gasped with realization.  "Of course!  If we can introduce a new currency, we can give them out so that all jammers have some!  Where did you find that?"
Opal made sure Liza was following her, than ran to the place where she had pierced her paw.  "Here," she announced.  "It pierced my paw."
Liza gazed intensely around.  "Nothing here," she remarked.  "We must call the alphas together."
An hour later, Opal found herself explaining her idea to all the alphas.
The moment she finished speaking, Cosmo rose.  "I believe I have the answer to this problem.  Cosmo plucked the diamond from Opal's paws and marched outside.  Everyone followed him.
Cosmo scraped a hole in the dirt floor and placed the diamond carefully inside.  He then covered it up again.  Leaning close to the mound of dirt, he whispered inaudible words.  A long pause followed.
"I don't think that worked," said Greely dryly.
The moment he said that, a tree trunk shot through the air, sprouting leaves by the second.  Gleaming diamonds shone from every branch, not a spot missed.
This was the Diamond Tree, and many jammers were called to pick the diamonds for their supply.  More bushes and trees were grown, but none as marvelous as the original Diamond Tree.
But of course, the alphas have their fears.  For when the last diamond falls from the Diamond Tree, the last diamond spent, Jamaa shall go into despair again...
